I’m not exactly sure when or how I first discovered the Cigar Advisors out of Easton, PA but I’m certainly glad that I did. In the summer of 2016 I began enjoying new media cigar coverage; YouTube, podcasts, etc. Somewhere along the way I believe I became aware of the Cigar Advisor brand via Facebook and then eventually began following their wealth of YouTube videos that include reviews, cigar 101, and much more interesting videos.
Not long ago, one of the four members of the Cigar Advisor group moved on and their newest member Fred Lunt joined the team. Fred not only immediately fit right in, but in my opinion has somehow made the group even more enjoyable to follow. Today, I claim to be Fred’s #1 fan… mostly because we share the same first name and at least someone named Fred can live the life of a cigar celebrity. The foursome now consists of Tommy Z-Man, Gary Korb, John Pullo, and Fred Lunt.
This was also right around the same time the Cigar Advisors began going live on Facebook from their Cigar Advisor office at Famous Smoke Shoppe in Easton PA. I’m not sure if it was their first Facebook live segment, but I recall the day Tommy Z-Man went live at Famous Smoke Shoppe and gave us viewers a tour of the facility, warehouse, lounge, and restaurant. I thought to myself… “Boy, it’d definitely be neat to take a road trip out there someday, it looks like a really cool establishment.”
Fast forward a few months and I’ve since friended all four of the members on Facebook. While the conversations usually revolve around cigars, it has been nice to be able to communicate personally and directly with the advisors online. They definitely make themselves available and certainly enjoy sharing their knowledge of cigars.
Last week I finally decided to make a quick road trip to Easton PA and visit the advisors. It was an awesome experience and one I wanted to share with you.
From my home base here in Greensburg PA, it was just over a 4 hour drive to Easton PA. I’ve always enjoyed road trips and this was an easy highway drive that was very rewarding. When I finally pulled up to the Famous Smoke Shoppe parking lot, I was immediately in awe at how enormous the whole facility was. I went inside and immediately began exploring the shop, the lounge, and the restaurant. A few minutes later I saw Tommy and Fred coming down the hall to greet me. It was great to finally meet them. For me, it was like meeting up with an old friend since I had been following them live each week on Facebook. For them, I’m sure it was… “Who’s this weirdo that drove all the way out here to meet us?”
We immediately began chatting about cigars and both Tommy and Fred made some suggestions on cigars I should pick up while visiting their amazing store. Pretty soon Gary came out for a visit and shortly after John came to say hello. Looking back I enjoyed the comedy in that everyone was saying how busy John was and that he could only come out for a few minutes, however as soon as we started to explore the shop together he was like a kid in a candy store spending more time with me exploring cigars than he probably realized. It was interesting just to note that even a guy who writes about cigars every day and shows up to work at this immaculate facility still hadn’t lost his love of exploring cigars in the shop.
At that point, the guys had to get back to work and prep for their afternoon live Facebook show. I then took advantage of my trip and explored their shop and had plenty of help selecting some cigars to bring back from Ali who was handling the shop that day.
As I sat down for lunch in the fantastic Leaf Cigar Bar restaurant, I got a message on my phone from Fred who said that the guys were going to invite me onto their live show that afternoon and even allow me to have my own segment to discuss pairing cigars with whiskey. It was a ton of fun to join them live from their office and catch the behind the scenes of their weekly show.
Here’s the embedded video of that live episode from Facebook:
The four guys were excellent hosts and I can definitely say they made a fan for life. They made the trip very worthwhile and after the live show Fred gave me a more in depth behind the scenes tour of the facility. One thing I noticed and thoroughly enjoyed about the group is how friendly the guys are and also how much they enjoy making each other laugh.
I then spent the next few hours having dinner at the restaurant and participating in the Wednesday evening trivia. Overall it was a perfect experience and I highly encourage anyone to make the trip to visit the Famous Smoke Shoppe and Leaf Cigar Bar, you won’t be disappointed.
